I founded Thistledown Investment Management in 2009 to invest my money following a value style. I have been investing since 1989. The VT Thistledown Income Fund started in 2010 is the fund that I manage. It has a 5* rating from Morningstar for its combination of risk and return. I serve as a director and on the audit committee of Aberforth Split Level Income Trust Plc a £200m listed investment trust. I was a director of its predecessor, Aberforth Geared Income Trust and oversaw the IPO of both trusts. I was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to armed forces personnel as Chairman of The Officers' Association. I am currently a specially appointed commissioner of The Royal Hospital Chelsea and head its investment committee. I serve as a trustee of The Clinical Human Factors 'the charity aiming to make healthcare safer'. For eight years until 2016, I lead the investment committee of the Armed Forces Common Investment Fund a £300m mixed asset fund. I have invested in a number of start-up businesses, most recently Cydar based in Cambridge and a 'world first in cloud-based healthcare'.
